Immigration Status of Relation Checklist

Use this checklist to determine the types of supporting evidence you can file with your petition to prove this criteria. You do not need to file all of these items with your petition to prove this criteria; one of these should be sufficient, but the more evidence you can file, the stronger your case will be. 

If your spouse or relation is a United States Citizen: ​
  • Abusive relation's birth certificate;
  • Abusive relation's naturalization certificate, if any; 
  • Abusive relation's passport; or 
  • Abusive relation's social security card.

If your spouse of relation is a Legal Permanent Resident: 
  • Abusive relation's Permanent Residency Card ("green card");
  • Any immigration document ever filed by or for the abusive relation;
  • Abusive relation's alien number;
  • Abusive relation's passport; or 
  • Abusive relation's social security card.
